In “The Sorcerer” we have a love story in essence but love abounds in the village of Ploverleigh not least because a sorcerer has introduced a love-potient into the village banquet. It all starts off normally enough with a young couple in the village getting married and there being a wedding attended by both families and many from the village. All perfectly usual you may say. They are of course very happy together, so much so, that they feel that all the people in Ploverleigh should also be happy. So they enlist the services of John Wellington Wells, a Sorcerer, who makes a potient which when consumed will cause the person to sleep for 12 hours and when they wake up they automatically fall in love with the nearest person of the opposite sex. (Note – it’s a respectable village so it only works on people not married!) By this time the plot is getting complicated as is life in Ploverleigh. There are of course other sub-plots in that the Vicar, Dr Daly can’t find a wife and the young couple’s parents (both widowed) are rather fond of each other…….or at least they were until the love potient changed all that.
